Meals on Wheels volunteers needed for Elks weekly meals delivery route

As many of you know, we have been supporting Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills with a Spotlight grant ($2,000 per year) from our Elks National Foundation for several years as well as our own lodge financial support one month per year ($500 per year) naming that organization as one of our “charity of the month” recipients.

It is now time to take our level of support for this terrific organization to another level. We have spoken with their Executive Director about establishing an Elks delivery route to help them deliver prepared nutritious meals to needy individuals in the Moore County, NC area.

We want to offer volunteers to deliver meals one weekday per week each month . This “Elks delivery route” will require the individual(s) to provide their own transportation, drive to the MOW headquarters on Juniper Lake Road in West End, NC ( just off Hwy 211 just west of Taylortown area) to pick up the meals, and then deliver them to the assigned client list for the day of the week specified.

Typically, this route will consist of 5-8 clients. It normally will take less than 2 hours of the volunteer’s time to pick up the meals and deliver them to the clients.

We have several Elks members who have already offered to be delivery route volunteers which is terrific BUT we need more members to step up and offer to help us in this very worthwhile endeavor.

Many of these clients are elderly, on walkers or using canes and need these daily meals to remain healthy. They also appreciate getting to socialize briefly with their volunteer driver who in many cases is their only contact each day from the outside world.

If you have a vehicle and are able to drive and also have about 2 hours per month to devote to a one-day delivery route ( between 10:45AM-1:00PM typically), then we ask for your commitment to volunteer.
