We are pleased to announce that the Southern Pines Elks Lodge #1692 received a $1500 grant from the NC State Elks Charitable Trust earlier this summer and we have now scheduled a one-day event designed to buy athletic style shoes for needy Moore County school children ages 5-10 at The Shoe Station in Aberdeen, NC- located in the shopping center on US 15-501 South near TJ Maxx.
We need at least 10 Elks members to volunteer their time on Saturday November 15, 2025 from 7-10AM (before the store’s normal business hours) to meet and accompany the children inside the store to try on and receive one free pair of shoes.
We have partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills who will contact the parents of the children selected in advance of the date. The parents will drive their child to the store and stay outside while volunteer Elks members escort the children inside the store to help them find the appropriate pair of shoes.
We would like to purchase up to 50 pairs of shoes that day for the children from the retailer, but with an estimated cost of $50/pair (includes sales tax), we need additional member $$ donations in order to meet our goal.
If you have an interest and passion for helping us with this very worthwhile project for needy children in our area, please contact either Paul Spadafora- Lodge Secretary , Sandra Greiner- Lodge Board member or Debbie Bassett – Lodge MVS Scholarship chair no later than Monday November 3, 2025.
